March 5th is the date of the Cambridge Half Marathon. We have 9 runners taking part and in this week’s blog, we will introduce you to some of them. They are all raising vital funds for The AKU Society, so please follow their links and donate.

Rory Munro, 29, Fundraiser, Cambridge

1. Why are you running the Cambridge half marathon?

I like the way I feel after running (not always during). I’ve got some friends joining so the event should be great fun!

2. Why the AKU Society?

Working for the AKU Society I know all about the great work that we do! My question would be ‘why not the AKU Society?’

3. What is your running history?

I’ve done a lot of running in the past, starting off with the Paris marathon in 2011. Since then I have done numerous events, once I even ran six marathons in 6 weeks. I have eased off such long distances in the last year, so a half marathon is a good way of getting back into it.

4. Interesting fact about yourself?

The picture is of me doing a 15k when I lived in Mexico. As someone used to the English weather, I passed out at the finish line. The orange got me going again though!

Matthew Addison, 28, Transport Planner, Leeds.

1 – Why are you running the Cambridge half marathon?

I am running the half Marathon with my Best Man (Rory), to help me get in shape for my wedding day on June 3rd.

2- Why the AKU Society?

Rory has told me all about the charity and it seems like a great cause.

3 – What is your running history?

I think I ran for the No. 42 bus once and still missed it. But on a serious note, I’m not a seasoned runner and I only really started running properly in preparation for this half marathon.

Robert Grout, 28, PhD student, York

1- Why are you running the Cambridge half marathon?

I’m running the Cambridge half marathon with a group of friends I’ve known since my school days as a way of getting together and catching up.

2- Why the AKU Society?

After learning from a friend about the great work the society does for its patients, I was excited to get involved.

3- What is your running history?

I’ve been running on and off for the last ten years but only recreationally – I’ve never entered a race.

4- Interesting fact about yourself?

I’m actually far taller than I look.
