Due to its rarity, it’s often difficult to get reliable and accurate information about AKU. Fortunately for patients in the UK, we have the National Alkaptonuria Centre (NAC), which is an NHS Specialised Service in Liverpool. Patients in other countries are not so lucky. Many patients around the world do not get access to the same level of support, care, and expertise as patients in the UK. They can feel isolated, left with little medical advice, and no treatment.

This is why we want to bring patients from around the world to attend a patient workshop in Liverpool next year- the centre of AKU expertise and research. We have already received an educational grant to fund the workshop itself, but we still need to raise money to support the travel costs of those coming from far away. We want to make this event as accessible as we possibly can. We hope to raise some of these funds through our raffle.
